Create a comic for English Learning Class
Title: Meet Mindy
Target learners' age: 8~9
Grade: 2nd grade
Proficiency level: A1
- can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.
- can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
- can't understand complex sentences and don't have a large vocabulary.
Goal: 1. Introduce themselves to the classmates.
2. Learning 'superlative'.
3. Learning the planets in English.
Meet Mindy
The target learners of this material and activity are young learners who are at 2nd grade and A1 proficiency level. I made this comic to make students practice introducing themselves so that they could be more familiar with each other and learn 'superlative'. And I set the activity's theme as the planets in the solar system since I think that it can drag young learners' attention and provide additional knowledge.
At the beginning of this activity, students will be given the work sheet and then watch the comic. After they watch the comic, the teacher will explain about the planets and 'superlative'. And then, students will work on the work sheet and share the answers with their partner.
<Reflection>
Making a comic was not easy. It is always hard to set target learners and design a material appropriate to the target learner.
I made this for young learners who go to elementary school, and I want to use this comic as I mentioned in the explanation. I selected the topic, the planets in the solar system because I thought that it would be the interest of the young learners and fit into the elementary school's curriculum.
